The Bhuj House - Opp. Camp Police Chowki, Camp Area, Bhuj, Gujarat 372001

  • Home Stay
  • Start at Rs. 2500

The Bhuj House was built in 1894 by Pestonji Sorabji Bhujwala, in 'Camp' - an area located beyond the walled city of Bhuj and directly beneath the fortified Bhujia hill. The area became known as Camp when the British established suzerainty over Kutch (then a princely state) in 1819, and made it their base. Camp was shared with approximately 20 Parsi families, who they favourably engaged with on a social and economic level. There, Pestonji Sorabji also constructed Kutch's only Parsi Agiary (place of worship), which was inaugarated in 1905, and patronised by the Parsi families who resided throughout the state.

Rooms

Agassi meaning 'terrace' or 'balcony' in Parsi Gujarati is the only room accessed via the spiral staircase. Previous generations had created open terrace spaces, but we had a bit of a re-shuffle, and enclosed this space to create our fourth guest room.

Agassi is two inter-connecting rooms: one with a double bed and the other with twin beds, which leads to the ensuite. And there's space for more. It's ideal for a family or group of friends.

Due to the sloping roof - especially in the bathroom - it's not ideal for very tall people!

JAFRI

Jafri was such a fun room to create because it was converted from the old outdoor toilet block! As the room had just four small windows, we enclosed a portion of the courtyard using a traditional lattice screen or 'jafri' to provide a sitting room bathed in natural light.

Jafri is twin-bedded. A third person can be accommodated in the sitting room, if they are comfortable with the semi-outdoor nature of the room.

NANO

Nano meaning 'little' in Gujarati is a lovely, cosy space, created partially from an old storeroom. Hence, despite it's size, this room has two entry doors! The outdoor bench catches the first rays of the winter sun and is the perfect spot for morning tea.

Nano is perfect for a single traveller, but we've provided a double bed so that it can be shared by a couple.

ROHEE'S

This room - which is part of the interconnecting nature of the house - belonged to our cousin Rohee, who was one of the last remaining Parsis to live in Bhuj before he relocated to Mumbai.

Rohee's is a large double/twin bedroom with an annexe room that can be used an extra bedroom or study.

This are the folling rooms you can see in the bhuj house.
